When it comes to commercial janitorial, scheduling is a crucial facet of the service that affects both the logistics of your company and its performance. As a building owner or manager, you're tasked with finding the most economical way to get the job done - and I don't mean that strictly in terms of cost. Today I'll dive a little into the various considerations you should make when scheduling a commercial cleaner for your property.
The scheduling of your services is highly contingent on the type of business you operate. For many large facilities where cleaning is needed regularly throughout the day (having the same areas cleaned multiple times), usually due to high traffic, the most prudent solution would be a day porter - an employee from a third party company that you hire at an hourly rate. They are already trained and the necessary equipment is provided, reducing the headache that results from hiring staff internally.
In most cases, your best bet to know the weekly frequency of your scheduling is going to be based off of your personal experience and the expertise of your cleaning provider. If your facility is already well established, you should know what needs to be cleaned and when. If it is new or there have been significant changes, make sure to bring this up during a walkthrough with the cleaning company representative that you are meeting with so that they can generate a new scope of work for you.
Another aspect to consider is the time of day in which cleaning tasks are performed. This is usually going to be contingent on the company that you hire, but you may be able to request a specific time of day for the building to be cleaned depending on the company.
Having cleaning performed during regular working hours might be necessary for some businesses that require an employee or manager to be present at all times that a contractor or third party is working in the building. It also mitigates potential security issues as cleaners will be there during normal operating hours. Typically this is best if the cleaning can be done when there is down time in the facility (for example, during your employees' lunch break).
Alternatively, and for the most part, more commonly, cleaning can be done after working hours. The main benefit here is that cleaning can be performed without getting in the way of you or your employees. Given that many cleaning companies hire their employees on a part-time basis as an addition to their main full-time employment, they tend to lean towards this option due to employee availability.
And there you have it! Now you know the gist of what to expect when scheduling your cleaning service and hopefully this article has answered some of your questions.
